  • Northern's PEIF Center Free Admission Friday

    To celebrate the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association's 106th anniversary, the Northern Michigan Rec Sports department will offer free admission to the PEIF recreation center Friday, Feb. 22. Other free recreational activities that will be available to the public at no cost include day long drop-in fitness classes, massage by Body Therapy Center, smoothies from MQT nutrition, free snow shoe/cross country ski demos, blood pressure and body fat screenings as well as open climb and rock-climbing certifications. There will also be contests and giveaways throughout the day.

  • Calumet Hockey Knocks Off Escanaba, 5-1
    The Escanaba High School hockey team played a strong game Saturday, but lost to the Calumet Copper Kings, 5-1, at the Wells Sports Complex. Christer Carne scored Escanaba's only goal in the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1, before the Kings got goals by Tanner Rowe, Dean Loukus, and Brent Loukus to pull away. Escanaba goaltender Trevor Denome made 33 saves before suffering a neck injury in the third period.  Bryce Buckbinder made 13 saves in relief as Calumet had 51 shots on goal in the contest.
