LPGA Futures Tour Ready To Return To Sweetgrass
HARRIS----The LPGA Futures Tour returns to the Upper Peninsula in late June, with some of the world's best lady golfers comping to compete for money...and a possible spot on the main LPGA Tour next year. There will be 150 golfers representing at least 30 countries at the Island Resort and Casino Championship, which will be held June 29th through July 1st at the Sweetgrass Golf Course in Harris. It's now known as the Symetra Tour: Road to the LPGA. But the facts are still the same: the top ten young women on the money list at the end of the season get an exemption card to play in LPGA events next year. And to 20-year-old golfer Victoria Elizabeth of Ohio, that is even more important than the money she makes at the various tournaments.

Elizabeth played in the Upper Peninsula event last summer, and is glad to be back. "Last year, I was just blown away, and I know the other girls were, too," Elizabeth said. "Just the overwhelming support, and how many people came out, and how welc0ming everyone was. It was amazing." It is a 54-hole event with $110,000 in prize money to be handed out. The Sweetgrass Course, which opened for the season on Thursday, will be ready for the pro golfers by the time they get here. What does Elizabeth like about the course? "I love that it is challenging, but scoreable," Elizabeth said. "If you hit it in the right places and you can make a few putts, then you can shoot a realy low number. But if you're not quite hitting it where you need to, then you're gonna have a tough day."
