The DC girls lost to South Bend, Ind., 7-2, and Beardstown, Ill., 12-2, on Saturday. It was an early exit for the Escanaba/Gladstone/Rapid River girls, but not before the girls made a little noise early in their game against the host team. DELTA COUNTY vs SOUTH BEND, INDIANA--- Delta County off to a fast start in bottom of first inning against Indiana District Eleven as the first four batters had base hits. Maddie Kolich tripled to right, and then Kaitlyn Hardwick laid down a perfect bunt. With first baseman and pitcher charging she bunted between them, hard enough to get it past both girls. The second baseman ended up fielding it with Kolich scoring. Richelle Vandeville singled to center and Lexi Chaillier doubled to right center, scoring Hardwick. Indiana pitcher Jordyn Bloode got out of the second-and-third, no-out jam. striking out Maddy Griffin looking, getting Chloe Caswell to pop up a bunt, and striking out Heather Bergstrom. Delta County led, 2-0, but Bloode was pretty much untouchable after that. She retired eight in a row before Chaillier clubbed her second double of the game with two out in the 3rd inning. She then retired eleven in a row before Bergstrom singled with 1 out in the 7th. Bloode went all seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs, walking none and fanning 12. A couple innings later Griffin was removed from the game with heat exhaustion. Taylor Kowalski hit a two-out home run to center in the fifth inning to put Indiana up, 3-2. They sealed the game with a 4-run 6th, featuring a run scoring ground rule double by Bloode in which Serina Sinnaeve ran through the fence an eyelash after the ball hit the fence. Griffin went 2 2/3 innings, giving up one hit and two runs (one earned). She walked three and hit a batter and struck out one.
