Eskymo Girls Sweep Singles To Tie Menominee, 4-4

ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School girls tennis team won all four singles matches on Thursday to tie the Menominee Maroons, 4-4, in a Great Northern Conference match. Megan Marenger rallied from a set down to win at #4 singles, preserving the tie.

Menominee won all four doubles matches in straight sets.

The Eskymos had lost their previous GNC matches this week to Gladstone and Kingsford, and Wednesday's match against West Iron County was rained out.

Escanaba's #1 singles player, Hannah Beversluis, defeated Carley Beyer, 6-2, 6-0. And at #2 singles, Eskymo senior Taylor Gauthier beat Menominee's Morgan Roman, also 6-2, 6-0.

"I just got the ball over," Beversluis said. "That's all I focused on. Just getting it back. The serve was all right. A little more consistent than it usually is."

"I thought my shots were on point," Gauthier said. "6-2, 6-0. That was great."

At #3 singles, Escanaba's Jasmine Clark beat Menominee's Kendell Klatt, 6-2, 6-0.

But at #4 singles, it was a battle for Marenger as she tried to get the Eskymos a tie. Her match with Maroon Carley Kenney was the last to be completed on the day, and Kenney won the first set, 6-4.
Marenger won the second set, 6-1, then won the decisive third set, 6-3.

Menominee won all four doubles matches, with the most dominating performance being at #1 doubles, with Ali Christen and Avrie Stewart beating Escanaba youngsters Darby Beckon and Heather Bergstrom, 6-0, 6-0.

Other Doubles results:
#2---Emma Antilla/Ely Wellnnir (Meno) def. Renee Perrault/Abby Knudsen (Esc), 6-2, 6-2.
#3---Keeley Derouin/Olivia Badker (Meno) def. Olivia Campbell/Jessica Koish (Esc), 6-1, 6-1.
#4---Allie Nolde/Olivia Anderson (Meno) def. Maddy Ide/Alison Sommers (Esc), 6-0, 6-1.
