MARQUETTE---
Northern Michigan women's basketball head coach Troy Mattson announced the signing of Amber Huebner and Lexi Smith to National Letters of Intent Thursday afternoon.

"We are extremely excited to add Lexi and Amber to our team in 2017-18," Mattson said. "Both players are very athletic, aggressive and tough. They will add a lot to our program."

Huebner, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Marquette, was tabbed as the 2016 Great Northern Conference (Mich.) Defensive Player of the Year.

A first team all-U.P. and all-GNC selection, she averaged 13.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.9 steals per game as a junior. Huebner also earned a spot on the Class A All-State honorable mention team and the Academic All-State squad.

A 5-foot-11 guard/forward from St. Germain, Wis., Smith enters her senior year with 1,478 career points, an average of 28.2 per game. She owns a single-game high of 51 points, which is tied for sixth in Wisconsin history.

Smith was voted Northland Pines's MVP and a first team all-conference honoree each of the past three seasons. As a junior in 2016, she was unanimously chosen as the Great Northern Conference (Wis.) Player of the Year and was named to the WBCA Division 3 All-State first team.

Through three seasons as an Eagle, Smith has also averaged 10.75 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 4.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

Smith will be one of seven Wisconsin natives on the 2017-18 team. Huebner will be the second Marquette Senior High School product on the roster, joining current freshman Terese Ledy.
