MARQUETTE---The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team downed Findlay, 61-50, Thursday night at the Berry Events Center.

The Wildcats used an 11-0 run that began with 7:18 remaining in the game to down the Oilers and move to 8-3 (3-1 GLIAC) on the season.

At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats led, 16-11, over the Oilers. They came out strong, starting on a 12-3 run, highlighted by a Chloe Tompkins three-point jump shot with 4:40 left in the first.

In the second quarter of the match up, the Oilers started to chip away at the Wildcats' lead, using a 6-0 run to pull within five points. Darby Youngstrom ended that run by forcing a foul at 2:58 and making the first of her free-throw shots. At the end of the second quarter, the score was 30-21 in favor of the Wildcats.

The Wildcats and the Oilers traded shots back and forth in the third quarter, with the score ending up at 42-37 Wildcats. Though the Oilers drew within five points of the Wildcats heading into the fourth quarter of the game.

In the fourth quarter, the Oilers tied the game at 44-44 with 8:15 minutes left to play.

The Wildcats' Jessica Schultz responded with a layup at 7:18 to retake the lead. Schultz started Northern Michigan on an 11-0 run that ended with 2:53 left in the game. The Oilers tried to chip away at the Wildcats' lead but fell short.

Northern Michigan shot 38.9 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from the three-point line and 69.6 from the free throw line.

Tompkins (16), Bre Gaspervich (15), Youngstrom (14) and Schultz (12) all scored in the double digits. Youngstrom (9) and Tompkins (7) led the Wildcats in rebounds.
