Braves Overwhelm Wolverines In Basketball Battle

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School boys basketball team was not about to take the Class D Mid Peninsula Wolverines lightly when the two teams met Monday night in Gladstone. After all, this group of guys was shocked by another Class D team, Rapid River, last season. But there would be no upset this time as the Braves cruised, 80-46.

Reece Castor scored 23 points and Brad Spindler added 21 for the Braves, who improve to 3-1 on the season. Jack Stephenson and Rudy Peterson both scored nine points.

Gladstone jumped to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter, and led, 20-10, after the first eight minutes. The Braves essentially put the game away in the second quarter, when they outscored the Wolverines, 23-5, to take a 43-15 lead into the halftime break.

Mid Peninsula (1-4) was led by Terry Brower's 12 points. Evan Hall added nine points, while Brandon Nummilien and Mitch Barron both scored eight points.

Gladstone also won Monday night's junior varsity game, 57-26.

Mid Peninsula hosts Rapid River on Thursday, Dec. 29. That game will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (107.3), and on-line at www.radioresultsnetwork.com.

Gladstone is off until Thursday, Jan. 5, when it faces Mid Pen again...this time in Perkins. That game will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www. rrnsports.com.

Marcus McKenney led Menominee with 24 points.
