Rough 2nd Quarter Stops Esky In Marquette, 64-42
MARQUETTE---The Marquette High School boys basketball team outscored the Escanaba Eskymos, 21-4, in the second quarter and posted a 64-42 victory Wednesday night in Marquette. The game was a make-up contest from an earlier snowout. Escanaba hung tough in the first quarter, last leading, 14-13, before the Redmen carried a 16-14 lead into the second quarter. Then came the rough second quarter, when the Eskymos couldn't buy a basket and the Redmen went on a big run. Things didn't get much better in the third quarter for the Eskymos, as they managed only three points and trailed, 54-21, entering the fourth quarter. Joe Ostrowsky led the Redmen with 11 points. Alex Duvall added ten. Ryan Robinette led the Eskymos with 12 points. Marquette has won five straight games after a season-opening loss to Petoskey. Escanaba (2-3) is off until after the two-week holiday break. ESCANABA GIRLS 57, GWINN 45---The Escanaba High School girls basketball team picked up a victory on the road Wednesday night, beating the Gwinn Model Towners, 57-45. Senior Jeny Brandt scored 25 points to lead the Eskymos. Trish McGuire scored 25 for Gwinn. Escanaba is now 3-2 on the season. The girls are off until after the holidays. |
