Escanaba Girls Drive Past Manistique To Start 2017
ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School girls basketball team scored 17 straight points in the first quarter and rolled to a 77-27 win over the Manistique Emeralds Monday night in Escanaba. Most of the second half was played on the mercy rule's running clock. Manistique, playing with just seven players and only one senior, led early, 2-1, before the Eskymos went on the long scoring spurt. The Eskymos rolled to a 51-19 lead at halftime, then scored the first eight points of the third quarter to start the running clock. Lexi Chaillier had nine points and Jeny Brandt scored eight as all of the Eskymo girls saw playing time. Madison Kraatz led the Emeralds (0-6) with nine points on three triples. Escanaba also won the junior varsity game, 53-14. Escanaba improved to 4-2 on the season. The Eskymos travel to Bark River-Harris for another non-conference game Wednesday night, then the girls visit Gladstone Friday night. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on Eagle 107.3 FM, and Friday's game will be broadcast on Kool 105.5 FM and AM-600. IRON MOUNTAIN BOYS 75, STEPHENSON 38---Jaden Vicenzi scored 26 points and Carson Wonders added 16 to lead the Mountaineers (4-1) to the Monday night win.
