BANNER NIGHT: Jets Celebrate 2nd Championship
POWERS---If this keeps up, there won't be much room left on the wall inside the North Central High School gym. Another state championship banner was unveiled Saturday night, celebrating the Jets' 2016 title. And the march is on toward another title. The Jets welcomed back two of their seniors from the previous team, and then cruised to a 77-29 win over the North Dickinson Nordics. It was NCA's 61st straight victory. Fellow '15-'16 senior Morgan Cox was not there because he was playing college basketball. The 2016 state championship banner took its place next to the 2015 state title banner, and not far away from the school's football banners. After the ceremony, the Jets stayed undefeated on the current season, and pulled to within four wins of the state record for consecutive victories. North Dickinson scored the first basket to take a 2-0 lead, then the Jets scored 14 straight points and 23 of the next 25 points to take command. NCA led at halftime, 53-13, and then the game was played on a running clock. Amongst the Jets' highlights were two slam dunks in the first quarter by Dawson Bilski, who has signed to play at Michigan Tech University next season.
