Gladstone Girls Get Many Contributions In Victory
GLADSTONE---Nine different players scored as the Gladstone Braves built a 30-point lead and cruised to a 71-55 win over the Stephenson Eagles on Thursday in Gladstone. Taylor Hunter, Maddie Ahlgren, and Leigha Woelffer all scored 15 points as the Braves beat the Eagles for the second time this season. Gladstone raced to a 7-0 lead, and after Stephenson tied the game at 10-10, the Braves scored 14 straight points to take control. Gladstone led, 34-21, at halftime, and then the Braves pulled away in the second half, leading 59-29, early in the fourth quarter. Kaylee Hukarevic led the Eagles with 14 points. Kennedy Tharp added 13 points, and Autumn Rasner chipped in 12 points. Rasner's 12 points were well below her season average, and below the 28 points the sophomore scored in an earlier meeting with Gladstone. The Braves concentrated much of their defensive game-plan to slowing down Rasner's scoring. Gladstone improved to 4-8 on the season, while Stephenson's record fell to 0-10. In Thursday night's junior varsity game, Gladstone beat Stephenson, 45-18. The Braves travel to Menominee next Tuesday night, then host Rapid River on Thursday. The Eagles, meanwhile, host Crivitz, Wis., on Tuesday.
