Escanaba High School Baseball Holds Fundraisers
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos are already looking forward to the upcoming baseball season, despite the calendar showing 'February'. The team held its annual spaghetti fundraiser Sunday afternoon at the Escanaba Elks Lodge. The money raised helps to pay the team's expenses throughout the season, as the Eskymo program is self-funded. And with Sunday's temperatures in the 50's and 60's over the weekend, the boys were also thinking about getting back on to Al Ness Field. "The temperatures have been rewally nice the last couple of days," Escanaba senior second baseman Parker LaMarch said. "We've been here since 10:00, and a lot of people have been coming. I'm starting to get the itch to get back on the field and start throwing some baseballs around." "It's coming up soon," Escanaba senior pitcher Justin Popelka added. "That's why we've got to fundraise and get ready for the season. It should be a good season." Escanaba won its Division Two district tournament last year, and the boys want to take the next step this spring to win its regional tournament downstate. The Eskymos open their season on April 7th at a tournament in Wisconsin Dells. |
