Five UP Boys, Four Girls Make Bowling State Finals

BAY CITY---Five Upper Peninsula boys and four U.P. girls all finished in the top ten at their MHSAA Division Two individual regional bowling tournaments on Saturday in Bay City, sending them all to next weekend's individual state finals in downstate Canton.

Marquette's Liam Robinson (far right in top photo) was the champion with 1297 pins.

Marquette's Hunter Negri (third, 1201 pins) and Mason Garceau (fifth, 1189) also qualified. Iron Mountain's Zach Spera (fourth from left in top photo) finished seventh with 1132 pins, and Escanaba senior Johnny Kositzky (second from left in top photo) finished ninth with 1095 pins.

GIRLS REGIONAL WINNERS---The Escanaba Eskymos will send two lady bowlers to next week's state finals. Maria Backlund finished sixth overall with 1001 pins, and fellow Eskymo senior Lizzie Taylor took seventh with 988 pins (both in bottom photo). Brooke Fornetti and Maddy Doucette from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford combined team finished second and ninth, respectively, to also advance.

MARQUETTE WINS BOYS TEAM TROPHY---
The Marquette High School boys bowling team won the Division Two regional championship Friday in Bay City. The Redmen won with 3642 pins. The Iron Mountain-Kingsford combined team also qualified for the state finals as a team by placing second with 3478 pins. On the girls side, the IM-Kingsford team qualified for states by finishing second. Escanaba's girls just missed, finishing fourth, 27 pins behind third place Gaylord.
