Escanaba Settles For Split At Wisconsin Dells Invite
MAUSTON, Wis.---The Escanaba High School baseball team opened its season at a tournament in Wisconsin Friday with a 7-5 victory over Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs, Wis., before dropping an 11-5 decision to New Richmond, Wis. In Friday's opener, Johnny Schlenvogt pitched the first 4 2/3 innings to earn the victory. Parker LaMarch pitched an inning-and-two-thirds of middle relief, and Justin Popelka came on in the seventh inning to put an end to a late St. Mary's Spring rally. Cody Frappier led the way at the plate, going 4-for-4. LaMarch added two base hits. In the second game, C.J. Barron took the loss, giving up six runs in two innings of pitching, Many of Manager Kirk Schwalbach's younger players got into the line-up as the evening wore on, with Craig Kamin and freshman Grant LaMarch finishing up on the mound. On Saturday, Escanaba lost to Eau Claire North, 11-1, to finish the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Eskymos have their home opener at Al Ness Field Wednesday with a doubleheader against Norway.
