LATE VICTORY AGAIN: Braves Finish Tourney 3-0

MAUSTON, Wis.---Better late than never. That's the theme of the weekend for the Gladstone High School baseball team after the Braves pulled out their third straight victory on Saturday, 8-3, over McDonell Central out of Chippewa Falls, Wis.

The Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie.

Gladstone took a 3-0 lead early on to give pitcher Clay Cole some breathing room.

He pitched five innings, allowing just one base hit ans striking out four batters. But the Wisconsin team scored three runs to tie the game before the Braves won it at the end.

A.J. Lundberg came on to finish the game on the mound for the Braves. The winning run came in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jack Stephenson. Lucas Weinert drove in two runs for the Braves, who also won twice on Friday with late-inning rallies.

With three wins under their belts, the Braves return home to host their annual Meet the Players and Coaches breakfast on Sunday. It is a major fundraiser for the team, with the money going to support both the varsity and junior varsity baseball programs.

The breakfast will run from 8:00 until 2:00 on Sunday at the Gladstone Middle School. Tickets are $7 for the breakfast of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage. There will also be raffles with prizes donated by local businesses and regional sports teams.

Gladstone is off until April 20, when the Braves travel to Marinette to face the Marines. The Braves will then travel to Appleton North for a doubleheader on April 22.

All three of those games will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and at www.rrnsports.com.
