Rockets Hit Seven Homers In DH Sweep Of Miners
RAPID RIVER---The Rapid River Rockets hit seven home runs, three of them by Erica Rubick, in a doubleheader sweep of the Negaunee Miners Monday in Rapid River. The Rockets won the opener, 12-1, in five innings, and took the nightcap, 8-5. In the first game, Rubick had two home runs, drove in five, and scored three times. Her final home run in the opener was a three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning that ended the game on the mercy rule. Richelle Vandeville also added a three-run homer, and Jaden Schwartz went 3-for-4. Brittany Schwartz pitched all five innings for the win. "She's seeing the ball real well right now," Rapid River Coach George Kanyuh said of Rubick's offensive outburst. "The ball must look like a pumpkin to her right now." In the second game, Erica Proehl hit two home runs and Rubick hit her third bomb of the afternoon. Jaden Schwartz hit her first varsity home run, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Lexi Trombley pitched the first five innings, allowing five runs on three hits. The winning pitcher was Brittany Schwartz, as she tossed the final two innings in relief. Rapid River (11-3) travels to Escanaba for a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. |
