Gladstone Major Boys Advance; Escanaba Survives
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Major Boys (age 11-12) had to wait an extra hour, and they got a little wet, but the boys punched their ticket for the district finals Sunday.
Gladstone's Marc Madden pitches in a downpour Sunday night.
Gladstone will face Norway in the district finals Friday night at 7ET in Kingsford. Gladstone pitcher Marc Madden threw a complete-game shutout. He not only beat the Tri-County boys, but he also beat Little League Baseball's pitch count rule. Madden got in under the 85-pitch limit, getting the final out on his 84th pitch. Madden got plenty of help from his friends. Jared Demeuse had a triple, Jake Wachholtz had a two-run single, and Quinn Downey had an RBI hit. That came after the long rain delay, as Gladstone turned a 5-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage. WCHT-AM (600) will travel with the Gladstone boys to Kingsford Friday night. You can hear the boys' game against Norway on the radio and here at www.rrnsports.com. ESCANABA 14, MUNISING 11---Not many people gave the Escanaba boys a chance to win this game, especially after Munising played well in a loss to Gladstone while Escanaba was shut down by Tri-County. But the Escanaba boys jumped to an early 9-2 lead and posted a wild 14-11 win at Gladstone's Don Howes Field. Cody Vandermissen came on to get the final two outs, despite throwing a couple of wild pitches that helped Munising get closer. Escanaba faces Tri-County in a loser's bracket game Monday at 4:00 in Gladstone. The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and here on-line at rrnsports.com. |
