Bay College Signs Three Milwaukee Hoops Players

ESCANABA---Bay College men’s basketball coach Matt Johnson announced the addition of three men’s basketball players to the 2017-18 recruiting class.

Dontae’ Ellis, Alfonzo Fields, and Kobi Lumdsen-Barnes will join the Norse this Fall.

Ellis, a 6’5” Forward, prepped at Milwaukee South Division High School, averaging 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.  Dontae was a three year varsity starter, with 65 consecutive starts, while earning 3 varsity letters.  He was selected 2nd team all-conference following his senior season.  Carrying a 3.0 GPA, he was named the Pick n Save student-athlete of the week on February 11, 2017.

“Dontae was a kid that kept improving over his career and the improvement was well deserved as he was a very committed and dedicated student-athlete during his high school career.” praised Milwaukee South Division Coach, Ty Moseler.

Alfonzo Fields and Kobi Lumdsen-Barnes, teammates at Milwaukee Vincent High School, led the Vikings to a Top 10 State ranking and a 20-5 record.

Fields, a 6’1” guard averaged 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, while shooting 53% from the field, and 46% from behind the arc.  Alfonzo was selected 2nd Team All-City Conference following his senior season.

Lumdsen-Barnes, a 6’9” Center, averaged 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks while shooting 62% from the field and 68% from the free throw line.

Kobi was selected 3rd Team All-City Conference following his senior Season.

Milwaukee Vincent Head Coach Ravonte Dantzler acknowledged the signings.

“These two young men are the true definition of what it is to be a student-athlete," he said. "Not only are they good basketball players, but they are even better young men who have done nothing but, represent Vincent High School in the best way possible the past four years. I have no doubt that they will carry those same positive characteristics with them to Bay College.”

Bay Norse Coach Johnson said, “I am excited to welcome Dontae, Alfonzo, and Kobi to the Norse basketball family.  Dontae and Kobi add much needed size and strength to our front line and Alfonzo is as good of a shooter as you will find, with incredible quickness.  Not only are all three of them fine players, but they are even better young men."

"We are very fortunate to have them part of our campus community.  I look for very big things from each one of them on and off the court.”

Ellis, Fields, and Lumdsen-Barnes will join ten student-athletes who signed earlier with the Norse.
