Rapid River Girls Sweep Menominee To End Season
RAPID RIVER---The Rapid River High School girls softball team swept a doubleheader from the Menominee Maroons, 6-3 and 6-0, Friday in Rapid River. In the first game, Brittany Schwartz pitched all seven innings, scattering seven hits and one walk, and striking out ten batters. Schwartz also had two base hits at the plate. Tina Olsen and Shelby Lacosse also had two hits in the victory. In the second game, Rhiley Hubert and Schwartz combined t0 pitch the shutout. Hubert tossed the first four innings, giving up one hit and striking out three batters. Schwartz threw the last three innings, giving up two base hits and fanning three Maroons. At the plate, Lacosse, Erica Proehl, Lexi Trombley, and Jaden Schwartz all had two hits. THURSDAY---ROCKETS SWEEP SUPERIOR CENTRAL, 11-1 AND 15-0: In the first game, Brittany Schwartz threw all five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine batters. Lexi Trombley had three hits and drove in five runs at the plate. Schwartz and Erica Proehl added two base hits apiece. In the second game, Trombley was the winning pitcher for the Rockets as the game was called after three innings on the mercy rule. She did not allow a hit. Erica Rubick hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Richelle Vandeville added three hits and three RBI. DISTRICTS NEXT UP---The Rockets (27-8) open Division Four district tournament play Tuesday in Bark River against Bark River-Harris. Game time is 5:30. |
