Bark River-Harris Baseball Playing In First Regional

RUDYARD---The Bark River-Harris High School baseball team will play its first-ever regional tournament game Saturday afternoon when the Broncos face Indian River Inland Lakes in Rudyard. The Broncos won their first MHSAA district tournament in the three-year history of the program one week ago, 8-0 over Stephenson and 3-2 over Norway.

Indian River from the Ski Valley Conference won its district for the second straight time and enters Saturday's game with a 23-10 reccord. The Broncos are 15-6.

"First and foremost, we have to take care of Bark River-Harris," Broncos Coach Al Botwright said. "We're going to take it one game at a time. We're going to take it one pitch at a time. We have researched them. They're certainly a very quality team. They were second in their conference, and they have four players who were All-Conference on their team."

One of them is pitcher Ian Clancy, who threw two shutouts and struck out 27 batters in a pair of district tournament wins over Alanson and Pellston.

The Broncos have been led by three pretty equal pitchers. Right handers Ryan Arndt and Jace Briggs did not lose in any of their starts on the mound in league play this season, and left hander Sam Hall is coming off a gutsy performance in last Friday's district final.

Bark River-Harris had a scrimmage in Gladstone on Tuesday to prepare for regionals.

The first semifinal on Saturday pits Rudyard against Wakefield-Marenisco.

The BR-H vs Inland Lakes game starts at 1:00 on Saturday in Rudyard. It will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (Eagle 107.3) and on-line at www.radioresultsnetwork.com.

If the Broncos win, they will play again in the regional final at about 3:00 Saturday.
