Eskymos, Braves Prepare For Softball Quarterfinals
The Escanaba Eskymos and Gladstone Braves will both play in high school softball state quarterfinal games on Tuesday in Lower Michigan.
The Braves against Calvin Christian in Division Three at Petoskey High school, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 noon. Gladstone is competing in the state quarterfinals for the 14th time in the last 15 years, and the Braves made the Final Four last season.
The Braves are 33-9 on the season, and have won all six of their post-season games by a combined score of 85-3. The Squires beat Kent City, 5-3, in come-from-behind fashion, to win their regional. Calvin Christian is ranked fifth in the state. Gladstone is unranked.

Meanwhile, the Escanaba Eskymos have a rematch with Saginaw Swan Valley in the Division Two quarterfinal at 4:00 at Central Michigan University.
The Eskymos beat the Vikings in last year’s quarterfinal, 5-2, to earn a trip to the state’s final four. Katie Ross hit two home runs in that victort.
Escanaba (36-4) lost to Swan Valley in a regular season match-up back in May, 7-6.
Swan Valley enters the game as the #1 ranked team in Division Three. The Eskymos are ranked #3. The game will be broadcast on NewsTalk 600, and www.radioresultsnetwork.com/eagle-107-3/, at 3:45.
BASEBALL QUARTERFINALS---Two Upper Peninsula high school baseball teams will compete in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday. In Division Two, the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils will face Bay City John Glenn at Central Michigan University. In Division Four, the Rudyard Bulldogs will take on Gaylord St. Mary in Gaylord.
