Gladstone, Munising Boys Open Districts With Wins
 GLADSTONE---The Major Little League (age 11-12) All-Star baseball season got under way on Friday with a pair of games at Gladstone's Howes Field. Gladstone topped Escanaba, 16-5, and Munising outlasted Tri-County, 15-14. In the first game, Gladstone scored eleven runs in the top of the first inning, sending 15 batters to the plate. Brant Sanderson had a two-run single, John Soderman added an RBI double, and Aeden Creten had a run-scoring hit.  All of that happened in a 30-minute long top of the first inning. Escanaba battled back with five runs in the second inning, with two of them coming home on a base hit by Chase Cloutier. Nick DeGrand also got a base hit for Escanaba, and those were the only two hits that the Escanaba boys managed in the game. Gladstone put the game away with five runs in the third inning. Brennon Detiege had a squeeze bunt to score one run, while Soderman and Conner Florenski each had sacrifice flies during that inning. Gladstone used five pitchers, keeping them all under 20 pitches so they could all be eligible for the next game on Saturday. Escanaba, once it fell behind by eleven runs, also started limiting pitching, using three boys during the four innings. MUNISING 15, TRI-COUNTY 14: The Battle of Alger County went back-and-forth all night, and the Munising boys pulled it out with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an infield ground ball. Earlier in the game, Mike Englund hit a home run to right field for Tri-County, and Kane Nebel hit a long home run to right-center field for Munising.
