Escanaba 11-12 Girls Roll To District Championship
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Major Girls (age 11-12) Little League softball team beat Norway, 13-0, to win the District Ten championship on Sunday at Lemmerand Park. Mckayla Mott threw all four innings, allowing two base hits. Escanaba scored seven runs in the first inning to give Mott plenty of support. Carney Salo had a pair of hits, giving her a streak of nine straight at-bats with base hits, going back to Thursday and Friday games. Salo's three-run double broke the game open for Escanaba. Abby Hill added a two-run base hit during that first inning rally. Escanaba advances to the State Tournament in St. Clair, located about 20 miles outside of Port Huron. The girls' first game will be a tough one, against District Nine champion Grandville, which beat Pinery Park, 10-0, in their district final on Saturday. The game is set for 12:00 noon on Friday, and it will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. Escanaba faces White Lake from western lower Michigan on Saturday, and then will face the District Three champions from the Jackson area on Sunday. The girls will head downstate on Thursday to take part in the Opening Ceremonies, parade, and banquet Thursday night. The tournament runs through next Tuesday, July 18th. |
