EXTRA INNINGS: Norway 11 Boys Win District, 4-3
ESCANABA---The Norway 11-year-old boys Little League All-Star team scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to beat Escanaba, 4-3, Wednesday night to win a district championship and earn a state tournament bid. It was Norway's second one-run win over Escanaba, and Escanaba held a three-run lead in both games, but couldn't close the deal either time. Wednesday's win came after the teams played six innings of baseball on Tuesday, with the game being suspended in a 3-3 tie due to darkness at Dickson Field. Hayden Amundson's sacrifice fly brought home Alec Haferkorn with the tie-breaking run. The Norway run came after Escanaba loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but didn't score when Zach Barron popped up and Gavin Sommers struck out. Escanaba also had a baserunner in the bottom of the eighth inning. With no team entered from District Eleven, Norway will represent the Upper Peninsula at the state tournament in downstate Schoolcraft, at the end of next week. |
