Grosse Pointe's Big Bats Overwhelm Kingsford, 17-0
GLADSTONE---The Grosse Pointe Woods/Shores Major Little League All-Stars (age 11-12) hit five home runs and eliminated the Kingsford boys, 17-0, in a state semifinal game on Tuesday in Gladstone. The other semifinal saw Dexter beat Bay City Northwest, 10-6. So far, 47 home runs have been hit. Grosse Pointe scored eight runs in the first inning, then scored two runs in the second, four runs in the third, and three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Eleven of the team's 17 runs scored on home runs, and Grosse Pointe had several doubles that also brought in runs. Matthew Greene got things started with a two-run homer, and then later in the first inning, Drew Hill smacked a grand slam home run. Adam Ayrault added a home run that was just fair down the right field line. Then in the fourth inning, Joseph Wisniewski launched a three-run homer over the center field fence, landing near the Cannon Field and the concession stand that serves both. Tuesday's game was called after the fourth inning on the mercy rule. Grosse Pointe will face Dexter in the state championship game Wednesday morning at 10:00. The winner will represent Michigan in the Central Regional in suburban Indianapolis. The World Series is in Williamsport, Pa.
