Norway, Gladstone 9-10 Boys Play Extra Innings
NORWAY---What looked like might be a short game early turned into a nailbiter late as the Gladstone and Norway Minor Boys (age 9-10) played a district final game Saturday afternoon at Marion Park. Norway jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings and a mercy-shortened game looked possible. But Gladstone fought back and forced extra innings before losing to the Norway All-Stars, 8-7. Hunter McCarthy's RBI single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning won the game for Norway, and ending Gladstone's tournament run.

Three more runs for Norway in the second inning as Kody Hendrix got a hit, Ian Gorzinski walked, and Jesse Julian was safe on a fielder's choice. Noah Gorzinski had another RBI hit. So, it was 6-0 after two innings. But in the third inning, Gladstone scored twice as Connor Limberg was hit by a pitch and Zac Hanson got a base hit. The boys scored two more runs in the fourth inning on a walk, an error, and a hit by Limberg. Gladstone still trailed, however, 7-4, entering the final inning. With the season on the line, they took advantage of a couple of walks, an error, and another Hanson hit to tie the game. Then Gladstone had to hang on in the bottom of the sixth when Julian got a leadoff hit and made it to third base. But two strike outs forced the seventh inning, and it looked good in that inning for Gladstone when Payton Fedell and Cole Hansen drew leadoff walks. With one out, Ian Schwalbach put down a perfect bunt on the third base grass.

Norway will now face Iron Mountain North will now square off in the championship round, with Norway facing the tall task of beating Iron Mountain twice.
