Gladstone, Menominee Tennis Split Dual Meet, 4-4
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School girls tennis team played to a 4-4 tie with the Menominee Maroons on Tuesday at Pfotenhauer Park. It was the Braves' second straight dual meet tie, after tying Escanaba on Monday.
"We had a much better meet today with the singles," Gladstone Coach Dan Williams said. "Andie Belanger played a very solid match at 1 singles. She was much more consistent today than against Esky and was hitting through the ball more, which really helped with the wind." Balenger beat Menominee's Emma Antilla, 6-0, 6-1. Kirsten Williams picked up a Gladstone win at #2 singles, beating Carley Kenney, 6-4, 6-4. "She was placing the ball really well and keeping the balls in play," Coach Williams said. "With the way the wind was today, being consistent really paid off for her."
At #1 doubles, Sydney Herioux and Shelby Martinucci defeated Menominee's Kendall Klatt and Ely Wellner, 6-1, 7-5.
"they continue to play really solid doubles," Williams said. "Hitting from the back court was really good and being more aggressive at the net paid off toward s tight second set."
The #4 doubles team of Marnnea LaFave and Kylie Williams picked up Gladstone's other win. Gladstone travels to Negaunee Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
