Schwalbach Resigns As Escanaba Baseball Manager
ESCANABA---Escanaba High School Baseball Coach Kirk Schwalbach has resigned. Schwalbach was the manager of the Eskymos for the past six seasons, and was the assistant coach the three years before that. In his six years in charge, the Eskymos won three district championships (2012, 2014, 2016). He had an overall record of 108-65-3 (.617 winning percentage), including 18-15 in the 2017 season. “It was a very hard decision,” Schwalbach said Tuesday evening. “Struggled with it for a long time.” Schwalbach cited family, job, and time commitments as reasons for his departure. Escanaba Athletic Director Nick Nolde had nothing but praise for Schwalbach. “Kirk’s passion for Escanaba baseball, and his ability to teach the game, will be greatly missed,” Nolde said. “We thank him for all he has given to the Escanaba baseball program.” Schwalbach coached five different Gladstone Little League Baseball All-Star teams, and was the manager of the Delta County Senior All-Stars that earned a state tournament appearance in 2009. He is a 1979 Escanaba HS graduate. Schwalbach was the third manager since the Eskymo program was revived in 2002. He followed Jude VanDamme (120-15 in five years), and Don Lauscher (130-27 in five years).
