Houghton Boys Win Munising Cross Country Invite
MUNISING---The Houghton Gremlins boys cross country team won the championship of the Munising Al Harger Invitational Tuesday afternoon.The Gremlins had 51 points, with Ishpeming second (74), and Negaunee third (105). Negaunee's Colton Yesney won the race in 16:05.8. Houghton's Clayton Sayen was second in 16:45.5, and Gremlin teammate Seth Helman was third in 17:18.9. The Escanaba Eskymos finished sixth out of 20 teams with 185 points, led by Justin Sanpaka's, who placed 14th overall, in 18:14.3. The Gladstone Braves finished eighth overall, with 284 points, led by Jake Strassler, who placed ninth overall in 17:58.5. The Rapid River Rockets ended up 15th overall, with 409 points, and North Central was right behind in 16th place with 416 points. Rapid River's top runner was sophomore Azariah Hernandez (37th overall, in 19:13.8) and North Central's top runner was Griffin Johnson, who took 31st overall (18:51.3) There were 144 runners, of all classes, at the event, and all but two finished the race.
