NMU Soccer Tops Purdue NW In Final Home Game
This story was written by NMU Sports Information The Wildcats outshot the Pride in the opening half by a slim margin, 4-2. Three of the four shots came in the opening 25 minutes, with the third resulting in an NMU lead. NMU's defense held the Pride to just a pair of shots in the opening half with none being on-goal. It was tied for the lowest shot total in the opening half for a Wildcat opponent this season. PNW picked up the offensive pressure in the second half, trying to even the score. The Pride outshot the Wildcats 8-6, also putting three shots on-target. It would be NMU that found a score, though, to go up a pair. A penalty called in the box on the PNW goalkeeper resulted in a penalty kick for the wildcats on the 78th-minute of action. The goal ensured revenge for the Wildcats who fell to PNW, 2-1 earlier this season in Hammond, Indiana in a game plagued by extreme heat. Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Filippo Torelli (Parma, Italy) picked up his third shutout of the season, making three saves in the process. Torelli increases his season total to 37 saves, while his goals-against-average improves to 1.35. NMU hits the road next weekend for a pair of GLIAC matchups. |
