STRONG FINISH: Norse Overcome Three-Pointers
IRONWOOD---The Bay College men's basketball team outscored Western Tech (Wis.) 35-10 over the final eight minutes and posted a 95-74 victory Friday night in Ironwood. Alfonzo Fields keyed the late rally with nine points and two steals in a several-minute span, and Kobi Barnes had a highlight-reel slam dunk for icing on the cake. But the Norse were stronger inside, with Barnes and Tyler Willette scoring in double figures and Dontae Ellis scored three big baskets in the second half when the team was down. A total of six Norse players scored in double figures. Bay led, 44-39, at halftime, but fell behind midway through the second half, 64-58. Ellis made a big basket to close the gap to four, then moments later, Fields had a steal and a hoop to make it a tie game. Then Garrett Finkbeiner came up with a steal and fed Fields in the open court. That ended in a Marcus McKenney basket "and one" to make it 67-64. Barnes hit a pair of free throws, and Fields had another basket in transition to complete a 10-0 run and make it an 83-71 game. Fields and McKenney each had 18 points, and McKenney had six steals. Willette had 14 points and ten rebounds, and Barnes also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Rasonte Smith had a big first half with 12 points. Dre Touiminen added 11. Josh Brownlee led Western Tech with 15 points on five triples. Kada Farah added 14 points. The Norse improved to 9-5 on the season. The men face Silver Lake (Wis.) College on Saturday.
