Rally Falls Short For Baraga County Junior Girls
WYOMING, Mich.----There's one team at the Junior Softball State Tournament in suburban Grand Rapids that traveled even farther to get here than the Escanaba girls did. The District Eleven All-Stars from Baraga County drove almost 500 miles to get to this tournament, and they played some good softball on Sunday against Ypsilanti Lincoln from the Detroit area. The L'Anse/Baraga girls fell behind 5-0 in the first inning, and by the time the fifth inning rolled around, the U.P. girls were down, 8-0. But in that fifth inning, Baraga County batted around and scored six times, taking advantage of a few walks, wild pitches, and using aggressive baserunning to turn those walks into doubles and triples. Kailey Durnion had an RBI base hit in that inning. Baraga County has five 12-year-olds on its team playing in this 13/14 year-old bracket (with some girls already 15 years old). The District Eleven champs also lost on Saturday, 10-0, to Croswell-Lexington. Pictured above: Megan Kraft takes one for the team....in her back!
