Norway Major Boys Drop Second Game At States
VICKSBURG, Mich.---The Norway Major Boys (age 11-12) dropped their first two games at the state tournament over the weekend in downstate Vicksburg.Norway got a tough draw in Saturday's opener, taking on the state runner-up from last year: Midland Northeast. The District One champions beat Norway, 11-1. Connor Ortman got the start on the mound for Norway. Also pitching we're Billy Pellegrini, Shaun Gogolewski, Ben Johnson, Dante Pedrotti and Adam Faull as Norway started doing the "20 pitches per kid" routine. Together, they gave up 11 runs, nine hits, five walks, and struck out six batters. Norway had five hits in the contest by Micah Wilson, Connor Ortman, Ben Johnson, Billy Pellegrini and Jason Kirschner. Norway's run was scored by Nick Murvich. Sunday's game was against White Lake out of the Muskegon area. Billy Pellegrini got the nod on the mound, along with Courage Krueger, Adam Faull and Micah Wilson, together they gave up nine runs, six hits, seven walks, and fanned three innings. Ortman smashed a solo home run over the center field fence in the sixth inning, but it was not enough Norway lost to White Lake, 9-7. Norway had 12 hits in the game. Ortman, Courage Krueger, Wilson, and Kirschner all had two hits apiece. Nick Murvich, Dante Pedrotti, Billy Pellegrini and Tyler Laurin all had one hit each. Norway plays in a consolation game on Monday at 11 a.m. CT against the host team Schoolcraft before heading home Monday afternoon. The Upper Peninsula's other team at this tournament, Portage Lake out of Houghton, is also 0-2 for the event. Portage Lake lost to Tecumseh on Saturday, 6-3, and then fell to Cheboygan, 7-1, on Sunday. Portage Lake plays Taylor in a conolation game Monday. |
