Kingsford Junior Girls Win Two; State Semis Next
GLADSTONE---The Kingsford Junior Little League Softball team (age 13-14) won twice Sunday to advance to the state semifinals on Monday in Gladstone. The girls beat Tri-City, 12-2, and then topped Georgetown, 7-3. Kingsford finished the round-robin portion of the state tournament with a 5-1 record, with the only loss coming to defending state champion St. Clair, which went 6-0. After Georgetown got an RBI single by Lydia Warsen to close to within 4-3, Delaney Cram drove home Talia Wallis with a base hit to right field, and Bre Raymond brought home two more runs (after trying to bunt twice). Tomscak earned the pitching victory for the Maize and Blue. Kingsford and St. Clair both drew byes for the Sunday morning games, and will each play in a semifinal game at Noon ET at Gladstone High School. The winner of this tournament advances to the Central Regional in the Chicago suburb of South Holland, Illinois.
