Escanaba 9-10 Girls Prepare For State Tournament
 ESCANABA---The Escanaba Minor Girls (age 9-10) Little League softball team is getting ready for the long trip downstate to Jackson for the state tournament. The girls open tournament play Friday at 3:30 against the host Jackson Southwest, which is in the tournament along with another District 3 team, Milan. That's because the western Upper Peninsula's District Eleven team dropped out of the tournament. Escanaba will play Saturday at 12:45 against Edwardsburg and Sunday at 10 a.m. against Georgetown. The quarterfinals are Monday, semifinals Tuesday, and the state championship game is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:00 noon. The Escanaba girls spent eight hours on Tuesday in front of Elmer's County Market, collecting donations to help cover the costs of the downstate trip.
