CHAMPIONS AGAIN! Indians Slip Past Bark River
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Indians repeated as American Legion Zone Five champions on Sunday with a 6-3 win over the Bark River Bucs at Don Olsen Field. Both teams, however, qualify for the state tournament next week in Menominee. Gladstone got six strong innings of pitching from Ben Kelly, who gave up two hits, scattered six hits and walked just two batters. Zac Hanson threw the final inning for Gladstone, walking two batters and allowing one unearned run. Matt Richer started on the mound for Bark River, and managed to throw two innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He walked two batters and hit two others. Sam Hall threw the final four innings for the Bucs, allowing two runs on five hits. Braeden Lamberg led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run for the Indians, and Jared Crow had a two-run, bases-loaded single to expand the lead. Gladstone will face Trenton in the first round of the state tournament in Menominee on Thursday at 10 a.m. EST. Bark River takes on Gaylord at 1 p.m. EST. Both games are scheduled to be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
