Bark River Hosts High School Wrestling Quad Meet

HARRIS---Four high school wrestling teams got togethe Four high school wrestling teams got together for a quadrangular meet Thursday night at Bark River-Harris High School. Iron Mountain, Manistique, Gwinn, and the host Broncos had many double forfeits, but also, some good wrestling.

It was Veterans Appreciation Night, with BR-H warm-up jerseys being auctioned off to benefit the U.P. Honor Flight, which takes veterans to Washington, D.C., to see monuments that have been erected in their honor.

In the end, $664 was raised for Honor Flight.

BR-H senior Wyatt Massie made the most of the evening. He won both of his heavyweight matches Thursday, pinning Manistqiue's Isaac Brewster and Iron Mountain's Giovanni Colavecchi.

It was special for Massie as well, because he and his girlfriend, Jenna Pease, have both enlisted in the Michigan National Guard. None of the teams had a full roster, which led to multiple forfeits. In fact, Gwinn came to town with only three wrestlers.

Of the matches that were held, though, Bark River's Keaton Bartosek beat Manistique's Josiah Gilroy at 135 pounds and Tyler Racicot beat Ryan Korva at 145 pounds.

Massie's win over Brewster gave the Broncos a 4-0 record over the Emeralds.

Then after a mandatory waiting period, the Broncos faced the Mountaineers, with Massie leading things off with a nice move in the second period to pin Colavecchi.

The Mountaineers got wins from Jon Carrion at 160 pounds over Kyle Adams; Caleb Bucklund at 189 over Devin Racicot; and Preston Roberts at 152 over Devin Kurz.

BR-H also got a win from Tyler Racicot at 145 when the Mountaineer wrestler injured his knee midway through the match.
