Gladstone Holds Off Second Half Gwinn Challenge
GLADSTONE---The Gwinn Model Towners shaved a 21-point deficit to one in the fourth quarter, but the Gladstone Braves pulled away to post a 69-60 win Tuesday night in Gladstone. Reece Castor scored 22 points and Carson Shea added 15 for the Braves. Gladstone led, 22-13, after the first quarter, and 37-25 at halftime. The lead grew to as many as 21 in the third quarter before the Model Towners, behind the strong inside game of Tucker Taylor, closed to within 52-47 entering the fourth quarter. "I think we had to slow it down and play a little more half-court basketball and take more care of our possessions," Castor said. "Kind of grind it out, and get those tough baskets." Carson Shea had 15 points and Rane Castor added ten for the Braves (6-5). Taylor scored 26 points and Austin Forbes added 17 for Gwinn (4-6). "The difference in the fourth quarter was rebounding and fast breaks, but in the whole game, the first two minutes of the game, we fell way behind," Forbes said. "We always have a two-minute stretch where we just don't do good." "I think then, in the third quarter, we didn't do too good for two minutes. So I think if we took those four minutes out of the game, we would've done better." The Braves swept the season series, also winning on Jan. 4, 69-49, in Gwinn.
