FOOTBALL REINFORCEMENTS: Wildcats Sign 26

MARQUETTE---Northern Michigan University announced 26 high school football players have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Wildcats this fall, including 12 from Michigan and six from the Upper Peninsula. The announcement was nade at a Signing Event Wednesday night at the Delft Bistro in downtown Marquette.

Northern Michigan University Football has added 26 players for the 2019 season on the NCAA National Signing Day. The incoming class features 12 from Michigan, including six from the Upper Peninsula, 11 from Illinois and three from Wisconsin. 


Joining the Wildcats will be two quarterbacks, Rad Premovic of Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois and Jimmy Martin from Prospect High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Premovic, 6'1, 180 lbs., was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year in his conference while earning All-Conference and All Area honors. Martin, who is 6'2 and 190 lbs. was named All-Conference and All Area Honorable Mention.


NMU will be adding two running backs to the mix. Montell Glover, 5'10, 220 lbs., is from Stephenson, Michigan and was a team captain for two years. For the past two seasons, he was named All-State while he earned 8-man Player of the year honors his junior season. Roubens Fink, at 5'8, 175 lbs., was an 8-man All-State receiver and running back in 2018 out of Superior Central High School in Eben, Michigan.


Three receivers will be added to the 2019 squad. Chuck Gerhard is a 6'3, 180 lb. receiver out of Iron Mountain, Michigan. Gerhard was a four-sport athlete and earned First Team All- Conference honors his junior and senior season. A 5'7, 160 lb. receiver form Lincoln Park High School in Chicago, Illinois, Awudu De Habib earned All-City, All-Conference and All-Area recognition his senior year. Rounding out the receiving additions is Brenden Sersaw out of Clare, Michigan. Sersaw is a 5'9, 160 lb. receiver who was named All-Conference all four seasons. He holds career yards, catches and interceptions records at Clare High School and was named Class B Player of the Year this past season.


At tight end, Jack Himmelspach joins the team as a 6'1, 195 lb. player out of New Berlin Eisenhower High School in New Berlin, Wisconsin. Himmelspach earned WFCA All-Region and was named the Woodland West Conference Player of the Year this past season.


The offensive line will see the addition of four Wildcats. Hunter Denton is a 6'3, 270 lb. lineman out of Jackson, Michigan and Lumen Christi High School. Denton played football, hockey and baseball and was a three-time state champion as well as earning All-Area Second Team and All-Conference honors. Zachery Powell joins the squad at 6'2, 220 lbs. out of Norway, Michigan. Powell was a team captain and earned All-Conference and All-Upper Peninsula distinction as an offensive tackle.


At 6'3, 270 lbs., Piotr Krupa comes to the team from Taft High School in Chicago, Illinois. Krupa was named an 8A All-State honoree his senior season plus earned All-Conference and All-City his junior and senior seasons.


On the defensive line, the Wildcats have added five new faces. At 6'2 and 253 lbs, Logan Kruhlik comes to the team from Ishpeming, Michigan and was an All-Conference, All-U.P. and an All-State selection as part of the U.P. Team of the Year. Burl Junior comes to the team at 6'3, 230 lbs. from Solario High School in Chicago, Illinois. Junior was a captain for two years and earned All-Area, All Public League honors plus was named to the All-Chicago Tribune team.


Cole Mitchell will look to aid the defensive line out of Rochester Adams High School in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Standing at 6'2, 230 lbs., Mitchell has been a two-sport athlete who was named MHSFCA All-State and All-League as a defensive tackle. Max Pierre comes to the team from Brussels, Wisconsin and Southern Door High School at 6'2, 238 lbs. While at Southern Door, Pierre earned a total of 11 varsity letters in four sports, and earned All-Conference honors in football and basketball. Luke Hubley joins the defensive line at 6'1, 225 lbs. after a career at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin that saw him earn two All-Conference honors, All-Region and All-Area honors. He also helped his team win two state championships.


The linebackers also will see three additions. Jimmy Bynum is a 6'0, 205 lb. linebacker from Bradley-Bourbannais High School in Bradley, Illinois. His senior season, Bynum was named All-Conference, All-Area and All-State. Matt Wilson comes to the team from Gaylord, Michigan and stands at 6'1 and 210 lbs. During his career, Wilson was a three-time All-Conference and All-Area player. Rounding out the linebacker additions is Owen Clous from Cadillac, Michigan. Clous led his team in tackles both his junior and season seasons while standing at 5'11 and 190 lbs.


The defensive backfield sees the addition of six players. At 5'11, 170 lbs., Montez Garrett comes to the team from Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills, Illinois and was named the Conference Player of the Year this past season. Davion Brooks is 5'11 and 180 lbs. from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois where he earned First Team All-Chicago Catholic League. From Warren High School in Waukegan, Illinois, Tavion McCarthy, 5'8, 170 lbs., earned All-Conference and All-Area recognition. 


David Oglesby, standing at 5'10 and 175 lbs. from Montgomery, Illinois, comes to the team after helping Nazareth Academy High School in LaGrange Park, Illinois win a state championship. Eddie McGee, from Mt. Carmel High School and Gary Indiana, is a 5'8, 170 lbs. defensive back who earned First Team All-Catholic League recognition. Bobby Willis attended Jackson Lumen Christi High School in Jackson, Michigan where he was a member of three state championship teams along with earning All-State, All-City and All-Conference honors at 5'10 and 175 lbs.


Rounding out the 2019 signing class is Caden Pellizzer from West Iron County High School in Iron River, Michigan. At 6'3, 165 lbs. earned First Team All-Conference honors and will look to fill the team's long snapper role.

This class will join a squad that looks to continue their growth after winning their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference road game in the Kyle Nystrom era while setting school records multiple school rushing records this past season.
