DISTRICT CHAMPIONS: Eskymos Run Past Braves
GLADSTONE---The Escanaba Eskymos had five players score in double figures and they rolled past the Gladstone Braves, 80-62, in the Division Two boys basketball district championship game Friday night in Gladstone. The Eskymos led from start to finish. Jared Nash scored 16 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Carter Hudson scored 12 points (including two triples), while Peyton Fedell and Austin Willette both chipped in eleven points. Escanaba led, 16-8, after the first quarter, and 30-20 at halftime. The Eskymos never allowed the Braves to get back into the game from there, and Gladstone hurt its own cause by missing four lay-ups and going cold from the perimeter. Gladstone senior Reece Castor scored 29 points to lead all scorers. The Northern Michigan University recruit scored 16 of those points in the fourth quarter as he tried to will his team back into the game. Fellow senior Jared Crow added eleven points. Escanaba (13-8) advances to the regional tournament on Tuesday in Petoskey against Boyne City (15-8). Gladstone finished its season with a 14-8 record.
