SEASON OVER: Wildcats Lose In Double Overtime

However, BGSU was able to find the net once and took a 1-0 lead 15:12 into the game, taking that lead into the second period. NMU was able to take advantage of their shots on goal lead scoring the tying goal 21 seconds into the second period. Bowling Green was kept out of the net and the teams finished the first 40 minutes tied 1-1. Junior Darien Craighead (Surrey B.C.) tied the game just 21 seconds into the second period, scoring on an NMU power play. Craighead scored his ninth goal of the season off passes from senior Adam Rockwood (Coquitlam, B.C.) and junior Philip Beaulieu (Duluth, Minn.). For Rockwood, it was his 29th assist of the season while Beaulieu notched his 28th of the year. In the third period, neither team was able to get a puck into the net, sending the teams into overtime. For the second time this postseason, the Wildcats went into overtime. It was also the second time this season NMU and BGSU were forced into extra time. The teams were unable to score in the first overtime to force a second. The Falcons' Sam Craggs managed to score 2:09 into the second overtime to take a 2-1 victory and advance to the WCHA Finals. The Wildcats close the season at 21-16-2. NMU hosted the WCHA Semifinals for the second-straight season and led the league with three First Team All-WCHA selections. |
