New 'Hofer Maroon Scholarship Fund' Announced

MENOMINEE---Former Menominee High School student-athletes have established the “Ken Hofer Maroon Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund” in honor of long-time Menominee football coach and mentor, Ken Hofer.

Inspired by the lasting impact Coach Hofer has made on their lives, the group wants to honor and exemplify Coach Hofer by supporting and guiding the youth of the community.

When asked why this scholarship fund is important to him, Aaron Berglin (MHS, class of 1992) said, “Coach Hofer made us believe that we could accomplish so many more goals if we did not think of them as impossible.  I want to be part of this to both honor his powerful legacy and support the community we all care so much about.”

Leading the charge in the overall effort is a core group of passionate, former Maroons who are reaching out to the extended community for support.  To that end, Joe Gehrke (MHS, class of 1992) said “It is my hope that we can enlist the broader Maroon community, locally, regionally, and nationally, to offer their support for Coach Hofer and future graduates of Menominee High School.  The more support we receive, the greater the impact will be to the community and to future Maroon leaders, along with extending the legacy of one of Menominee’s finest leaders.”

To be considered for the Ken Hofer Maroon Student-Athlete Scholarship, students must be a Menominee High School graduating senior, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, be a varsity letter winner, demonstrate a passion for our community and plan to attend a 2 or 4-year educational program.  Financial need will also be considered.

The fund will be managed by the M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF).

Donations are being accepted with a goal of awarding the first scholarship in the spring of 2020.  Contributions may be mailed to the MMACF at 1110 10th Avenue, Suite L-1, Menominee, MI  49858.  Scholarship applications will be available on the M&M Area Community Foundation website in March of 2020.
