Lancour, Eskymos Cruise To Victory In Menominee
MENOMINEE---The Escanaba High School baseball team posted a 9-3 victory over the Menominee Maroons Thursday night at Spies Field as Noah Lancour threw five innings of no-hit ball. Tyler Lawson went 3-for-4, while Craig Kamin had two hits, a walk, scored three runs, and drove in two. Austin Willette also drove in two runs for the Eskymos. The Menominee defense sprung a leak in the third inning when Kamin walked, stole second, and as he stole third base, the throw got away and Kamin came home. He flipped over and sprawled onto the plate to score the second run of the game. Jake LaFave's RBI single to center field made it a 3-0 game. Menominee had a golden opportunity to get back in the game in the bottom of the third inning when errors at shortstop and third base gave the Maroons runners at second and third. Lancour, however, buckled down, getting called third strikes on both Keaton Uecke and Zach Starzynski, then got Dante Sartorelli swinging to end the threat. The Maroons got to within 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Billy Bailey RBI groundout, but Kamin's two-run single in the top of the fifth put it away. Starzynski went four innings, and was charged with four runs on five hits. Buddy Beyer tossed the final three innings, and was tagged with five runs (one earned) on five hits. In all, Menominee made six errors and Escanaba made three. Escanaba (13-11) will not play in Wausau, Wis., Friday or Saturday as planned due to the heavy rain in the weather forecast. The Eskymos will travel to Marquette on Monday for a doubleheader. The games will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600).
