Traverse City Delivers Beating To Falish, Eskymos

ESCANABA----The look on David Falish's face pretty much said it all.

The Escanaba quarterback was battered, bruised, and with an eye that was swelled almost completely shut. And the bad part? It was only the second quarter.

The Eskymos were pounded by a big, physical Traverse City Central team, 50-6, in Thursday night's home opener at the Escanaba Athletic Field.

Esky's John Brant (21) covered by TC Central's Zach Egbert (12) Thursday night.
The Trojans were in control from start to finish, easily scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions (on runs by Joe Schepperly and T.J. Schwannecke) and rolling to a 28-0 halftime lead.

They dominated in every aspect of the game, but the Trojans were especially dominant at the line of scrimmage. Both ways.

The Eskymos had trouble moving the ball, and did not cross their own 40 yard line until a penalty in the dying seconds of the second quarter put them at the 45 yard-line.

Travis Heller, who came on in relief of Falish, led his team to another first down at the TCC 30 yard-line.

But Heller threw an interception to end that drive moments later.

Heller scored Escanaba's only touchdown, in the fourth quarter. The Eskymos were down, 43-0 at the time. Heller ended up with 30 yards rushing and 52 yards passing.

Travis Heller-to-Ben Kleiman first down throw.
Falish, before he got hurt, was credited with 21 yards rushing and 25 yards passing.  And Jake Walker was able to get 14 yards on the ground.

Escanaba (1-1) has some time to heal. The boys don't play again for nine days: on Saturday, September 8, against Cedar Grove-Belgium, Wis.

Game time is 1:00 next Saturday at the Escanaba Athletic Field.
