Bark River Bucs Battle; Fall To Midland Berryhill
GLADSTONE---The Bark River Bucs lost their third game of the Gregg Johnson Memorial Tournament on Saturday, falling to the defending World Series runners-up, Midland Berryhill, 12-3, in Gladstone. The Bucs trailed by just two runs in the fourth inning before Berryhill pulled away. Midland scored two runs in the first inning thanks to a walk , an error, and a base hit by Derek Beougher. The Bucs got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Hall led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Javurek. Berryhill added two runs in the second inning on a double by Carson Cooley to go up, 4-1. Then in the third inning, Jeff Allen walked and rode home on an RBI double to right field by Adam Randall. The Bucs didn’t fold, however, rallying in the bottom of the third inning against Midland pitcher Connor Moe, who threw for the NJCAA Regional Champion Delta College Pioneers this spring. Hall led off with a walk, and Wyatt Riley followed with a bunt single. Zack Englund then hit a pop fly base hit to load the bases with no outs. Matt Richer made a bid for an RBI single when he smacked one toward right field, but Cooley made a nice play at second to get an out at first as Hall scored. But Berryhill took advantage of two more Bucs errors in the fourth inning, with Shane Juday, Beougher, and Allen got base hits, and Midland was ahead 8-3 after four innings. Hall reached his 105th pitch, so he was lifted for Javurek in the fifth inning. Javurek retired the side 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth, but Midland put the game with five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a long opposite field home run to right field by Beougher. Midland Berryhill later beat Chief Pontiac, 8-2, to finish undefeated in pool play, and they will play in the semfinals on Sunday.
