Escanaba, Gladstone 9-10 Boys Win District Games
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Minor Boys (age 9-10) Little League Baseball team rolled to a 10-0 win over Tri-County Friday night to advance to the district finals. Gladstone, meanwhile, stayed alive with a 12-2 win over Munising. Escanaba jumped to a big lead early on to win its second straight game in the tournament, scoring three runs in the first inning. Joey Garcia's two-run double was the big hit in that rally. Tri-County couldn't get its offense on track after scoring 13 runs on Thursday. The Escanaba boys will now play in the district final four next Thursday afternoon. In Friday's first game, Gladstone fell behind 2-0 in its game as Munising took advantage of six walks in the first two innings. But the Purple took control by scoring six times in the bottom of the second inning, three of them on an inside-the-park home run by Ben Wilson down the left field line. Wilson later added a run-scoring double. Andrew Juntilla earned the pitching win in relief of Wilson. The two combined to throw a no-hitter against a Munising team that had scored ten runs on Thursday. Gladstone faces Tri-County on Saturday at 1:00 in Escanaba. The game will be broadcast on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
