NMU Track Team Praised For Academic Successes
This story was written by NMU Sports Information To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor season. Senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) was named a First Team All-American in the 800 meter run for both the Indoor and Outdoor season and set new school records in the 800 in both seasons as well as helped the 4×400 Meter Relay teams to new records as well. Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Track & Field Field Athlete of the Meet at the Indoor and Outdoor GLIAC Championships. She was a Second Team All-American in the Long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and also competed in the High Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she finished 11th. Senior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Mich.) competed in the 4×400-meter relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships, aiding the team to an 11th place finish and joined Huebner to set a new school record in the event as well. Senior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Mich.) and junior Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wis.) were members of the Outdoor 4×400 Meter Relay to beat the school record at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, winning the race with an NCAA Provisional time of 3:46.86.
As a squad, NMU posted a team GPA of 3.43, joining seven other teams from the GLIAC. In order to be considered for Scholar Team of the Year a program must finish highly at the national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA as a team. |
