Marquette Blues Drop Eight-Inning Heartbreaker
GLADWIN---Jon Jason retired the first 13 batters he faced and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Marquette Blues lost in eight innings to Rosebush Post 383, 2-1, at the state tournament in downstate Gladwin. Marquette stranded 15 baserunners in the loss, including the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning. They also stranded the bases loaded in the Jason threw 70 pitches, keeping him eligible for weekend play. Henriksen hit a batter with a 1-2 curveball to force home the tying run. He left after throwing 30 pitches, going 1 1/3 innings. Brenden Kaski relieved Henrisken in the eighth inning and gave up two walks and the walk-off hit off the bat of Zach Steeley. Holden Shaneburger’s ground out in the first inning brought home Marquette’s only run, as both teams had three hits in the game. Pete VandenAvond, Shaneburger, and and Henriksen had Marquette's only hits. They drew eight walks and had four batters hit by pitches. Marquette plays in the loser’s bracket Friday at 12:30.
