Wisconsin Team 'Rockets' Past Escanaba Eskymos

ESCANABA----Things got off to a good start for the Escanaba High School football team on Saturday afternoon.

The Eskymos welcomed the Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets into town from southern Wisconsin, and they had every intention of being a hostile host when David Falish scored a touchdown just 1:41 into the game.

T.J. Myrick made a field goal Saturday.
Escanaba had a 7-0 lead, capping a drive that included several big plays.

But things turned quickly as the Rockets lived up to their nickname, eventually rolling to a 49-10 victory over the Eskymos.

The man who did most of the damage was Alec Giles. He wore #25 on his back, and he had the ball in his hands almost the entire afternoon.

Giles, one of the highest-ranked players in all of Wisconsin, "walked the walk" of all of that pre-game talk as he scored four touchdowns.

It was the Rockets' first win of the season after losing their first two games, including a 20-7 setback against Kingsford last week.

After Falish's touchdown in the opening minutes, the only other score the Eskymos could manage was a 33-yard field goal by T.J. Myrick late in the second quarter.

Long run for Esky's Trevan Wendrick!
That cut the Rockets lead to 20-10, but the Eskymos were not able to stay that close for very long as they turned the ball over three times...two of them on Falish interceptions.

Escanaba's record fell to 1-2 with their second straight mercy-rule loss. Traverse City Central topped the Eskymos, 50-6, last week. Escanaba opened its season with a 21-0 win at Alpena two weeks ago. The Eskymos travel to Marquette next Friday night.
