Marquette's Anderson Has Dream Job With Wings

CALUMET---It was 2008 when the Marquette High School hockey team won a state championship, tying Orchard Lake St. Mary in an epic eight-overtime thriller. That was a memorable tournament run, with Escanaba apparently scoring an overtime goal in the first round against Marquette, only to have that goal waved off. The Redmen then went on a long playoff run, leading to the longest game in state playoff hockey history.

One of the members of that Marquette Redmen team, Troy Anderson, is still involved with hockey, eleven years on from his high school career. Anderson is working for the National Hockey League and the Detroit Red Wings, doing photo and video work and social mediacontent for the league.

“Long story short, I made a film about an outside rink in Detroit called Clark Park,” Anderson told teh Radio Results Network. “Some of the folks with the Red Wings and NHL saw it, and there was an opportunity to help them out with social media work.”

Anderson was at the Calumet Collesuem Thursday night as the Red Wings faced the St. Louis Blues in the Hockeyville USA hockey game. It’s a rink he played on with the Redmen that championship year.

“We only lost three times that whole year,” Anderson remembered. “One of them was here. There were 1,000 people in the stands and they were all screaming. It was crazy. This IS Hockeyville USA.”

Anderson is enjoying the ride, putting his talents to use for the Red Wings.

“It’s definitely a dream come true,” he said. “To be covering professional hockey, after growing up in Marquette and playing hockey, I really want to just keep plugging away and see where it goes.”
